Our First Donation via Gift Card!

A special thanks to Diane M of Tucson who sent us a $30 gift card for Dollar Tree.  We were able to purchase 30 tubes of toothpaste for the 1000 Hygiene Kits Project.  We will be updating totals again the first week of March if all goes well.

Quantity Updates

We have gathered enough supplies to make 75 complete kits so far.  Only 925 more to go!! These numbers are provided to assist buyers in knowing what we need the most of.  It's a little tedious to do the calculations as the kits need to be almost completely assembled to determine what we have.  It is important to keep a tally so we don't end up 900 short of an item.

We have received:

Bar Soap: 255
Shampoo: 245*
Conditioner: 111*
Toothbrush: 144
Toothpaste: 75

Comb: 97
Hand Towel: 70
Washcloth:  100

Woo Hoo!  We have also received a donation of 100 of THESE bottles.  We still need more as each kit requires 8 oz-sized shampoos and conditioners.  *This number reflects the total number of 8oz containers.

These items' are "served" "on the side" as not everyone has the same needs.  Nonetheless, who would want to be without tampons or deodorant?

Disposable Razors: 142
Lip Balm: 96
Deodorant: 205
Gallon Bag: 270
Quart Bag:230
Dental Floss/Picks: 78
Tampons/Pads: 19 packs

Kit Update

I only have a moment as we have been busy with the holidays and a heavy dose of LIFE!  The 1000 Kits Project is making steady progress.  We have items enough for 63 complete kits.  I will run a breakdown of items in a few days to make it easy to determine which items we are most in need of.  At the moment, without my handy-dandy list in front of me, we have lots of lip balm and deodorant.  We are lacking, in proportion, in washcloths, hand towels, and toothpaste.  The other items are somewhat floating in the middle for the lacking items before they can be put into a kit they can call their own.

Thank you for all your dedication and support in this project.  There's nothing quite like being evacuated from your home unexpectedly, showing up to a refugee center and not having a way to get clean.  Hygiene kits are vital in maintaining cleanliness in hard times.  1000 kits is a lot, but it is not unrealistic for evacuation centers to host thousands of evacuees.

THANK YOU ALL!

Online Event Fundraiser

Please join us in a special fundraiser to benefit the 1000 Kits Project.

Visit AVON at this LINK.  Click on the SHOP MY ONLINE EVENT and start shopping.  All purchases raise money for the 1000 Kits Project.  Your purchases for yourself, family, and friends helps to raise funds that will be used to purchase more hygiene kit products.

If you wish to shop AVON solely for the hygiene kit project feel free to do so.  Simply select all items from the hygiene kit item list, purchase them, have them shipped directly to us or deliver them to your door for you to bring to a drop-off location.

Some of the items available from AVON include:

Bar Soap
Shampoo
Conditioner
Lip Balm
Deodorant

Not only does AVON offer superior quality products, but their prices are extremely competitive.  Watch for sales which run frequently.  Deodorant commonly goes on sale 5 for $4.  Lip balms occasionally go on sale for $.69.  Shampoo and conditioners are often buy on get one free.

Any purchase through the online event directly benefits this humanitarian aid project.  All purchases and donations are greatly appreciated.  1000 kits is a huge goal, but if you consider the typical evacuee center after a catastrophic event, 1000 kits leave hundreds, if not thousands, without a simple hygiene kit necessary for basic sanitation.

We set our goal high and we hope to accomplish it.  We cannot do it alone.  Please take a moment every day to spread the good news of our project.

Thank you!

Volunteer Opportunities

We are glad to accept help from those wishing to participate as volunteers.  Just a few of the roles we need filled include:

SEAMSTRESS  We accept the donation of used bath towels to be cut and made into hand towels and washcloths.  Directions will be provided for proper sizing and finishing.

LAUNDRY  All towels and wash cloths will need to laundered and sanitized with bleach prior to packing.  We prefer this to be a non-smoking environment.

SHOPPING  As we are very glad to accept gift cards for discount stores to purchase hygiene kit items, we would be happy to have the assistance of others in providing security and transparency of the use of gift cards.  Hopefully, this will give donors an added sense of security that every penny of their gift card donations is used directly on items required for the hygiene kits.

DROP-OFF LOCATIONS  If you would be willing to host a drop-off location at your home or work we would love to have your help.  All drop-off locations must be willing and able to transport items to the ZIP Code region of 85901.  Keep in mind that it is often not too difficult to find someone making the drive.  We would love to have one in Phoenix and Tucson, also smaller towns of Safford, Flagstaff, etc.  The drop-off host in Mesa is glad to meet up with you to bring your items to 85901.

INFORMATION  Currently there is only one person taking calls for information.  If you have the time and inclination to allow people to call you for more information we could use one or two more people.

FLYERS  IF you can do nothing else but distribute flyers we would love to have your help.  This project will not be successful without hundreds, if not thousands of people helping.  Just spread the word.  We will upload a printable flyer soon.  Please SHARE us on Facebook and by email.

COPIES  If you are willing to make copies of flyers that would reduce the expense burden of our budget, which is $0.00.  Of course, there have been expenses that have been paid for copies, travel, shipping, etc.  If a few people can help share the burden of expenses it would help so much.  The truth is, this is run by a group of individuals, mostly retired and on fixed incomes.  Every bit of help is much appreciated.

KIT ASSEMBLY  Once we have collected the items for the kits, we will need a small army to come and help assemble them properly.  This is a fantastic family activity.  Let's plan on a potluck!

Thanks for your consideration in helping with this project.  We cannot do this without your help.

Shampoo: 4
Conditioner: 3

A big THANK YOU to those who have donated items, shared the project with others, and those who plan on participating in the near future. 1000 hygiene kits is an astronomical amount for a group. We need all the help we can get. People can donate nationwide; please see details on our blog. We strongly encourage non-cash (PayPal, cash, etc) donations. Instead of cash, we prefer gift cards to purchase the items we need. 100% goes to purchasing items. After purchase, your receipt will be uploaded for proof of proper funding use. Thanks again!
